Through the U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top (RTTT) competitive grant program, states are asked to advance education reforms in four areas: (1) Adopting standards and assessments that prepare students to succeed in college; (2) Building data systems that measure student growth and success; (3) Recruiting, developing, rewarding, and retaining effective teachers; and (4) Turning around our lowest-achieving schools.
